OTEC offers scholarships to high school students, homeschool students, returning college students, and adults entering educational and technical programs.

Scholarships

Education powers the leaders of tomorrow. As part of Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative's ongoing commitment to community, youth, and education, OTEC is proud to offer scholarships to our member-owners and their families! 

OTEC scholarships are funded through donations and unclaimed capital credits. Tax-deductible contributions can be made directly to the scholarship fund through the OTEC Member Foundation. Options for donating include contributing capital credit retirements, making a one-time gift, or establishing a named scholarship fund. A named scholarship fund allows donors to specify support for students in particular career fields or communities.

Please review all instructions and confirm your ability to meet all requirements before submitting your application. At the end of the description, there is an "Apply" button. OTEC-EOU Rural Scholarship Program  - OPEN

         Four local students who plan on attending Eastern Oregon University have a chance to have their entire tuition and fees paid for four years at EOU, if those students continue to meet certain criteria. Deadline to apply is March 1, 2026.

 

 


Graduating High School Student Scholarship - OPEN

         Graduating high school seniors have a chance to earn $5,000 to further their education and training beyond high school! Deadline to apply is March 1, 2026.

 

 


Returning College Student or Adult Scholarship - OPEN

         If you're a returning college student or an adult looking to start school, apply for the chance to earn $5,000 to help further your education and training! Deadline to apply is March 1, 2026.

 

 


Trade School Scholarship - OPEN

         Interested in learning an in-demand and well-paying trade? OTEC offers $5,000 scholarships for those interested in attending a trade, vocational, or technical school. 

 

 


Apex Elite Line Academy Scholarship - OPEN

         Interested in a great-paying career in the electric utility industry? OTEC is proud to partner with the new APEX Elite Line Academy, operated by Baker Technical Institute (BTI) - a premier line worker school located in the heart of Baker City, Oregon - to offer scholarships for those who want to pursue a career as a lineworker. APEX Elite Line Academy is now accepting applications to their first cohort scheduled to begin June 8th,2026.

Those interested in attending lineworker training at a school other than APEX Elite Line Academy are encouraged to apply for the OTEC Trade School Scholarship. 

Memorial & Named Scholarships

The OTEC Member Foundation approved a program to expand scholarship offerings, creating the opportunity for memorial and named scholarships. If you are interested in creating a named or memorial scholarship, email memberfoundation@otec.coop.

Greg Hoover Memorial Trade School Scholarship - Closed. Awarded June 17, 2024

         Greg Hoover (1954-2023) was a talented mechanic, licensed contractor, and owner/operator of an excavation company and an RV Park. Greg was a jack of all trades in the truest sense of the statement. The Greg Hoover Memorial Trade Scholarship serves as a tribute to Greg’s life and his work ethic and will provide an enduring legacy while empowering a new generation of skilled labor. This scholarship is in the amount of $2,500 and is for those interested in attending a trade, vocational or technical school.
